Welcome to Kindergarten at St. Jane de Chantal School!
Kindergarten is a wonderful place to learn how to pray, read, write, count, and all about the world around us! Read on to see what we are learning about this week.
Our Month at a Glance
Religion: This month we read and retell the Easter story in many different ways. We learn about the Easter Triduum and attend Stations of the Cross weekly with our school. We watch Living Stations performed by the 8th grade before leaving for Easter Break, When we return from Easter Break we learn about Baptism.
Reading: This month we introduce the letters W, K, Q and J. We learn the sounds made my by these letters and how to write them using D'Nealian handwriting. We learn memory words: my, like, said, and was. We pick up the pace with reading fluency and decoding strategies to read more difficult texts.
Math: This month we learn about addition, subtraction, and money. When we return from Easter break we will start our unit on time. New vocabulary include: quarter, nickel, dime, penny, dollar, cents, add, subtract, join, take away, sum, and difference.
Language Arts: We practice "decodable" words that accompany the Superkids unit. We continue to read in small groups the Superkid library books and practice D'Nealian handwriting. We discuss plot, main ideas, characters, setting, and a story sequence.
Science/ Social Studies: This month we learn about weather and seasonal changes in science. We learn about the scientific method and different jobs scientists have such as meteorology and astronomy. In social studies we discuss the season of spring, the Easter holiday and Earth Day. At the end of April we learn about our families.
