Welcome to Kindergarten at St. Jane de Chantal School!
Kindergarten is a wonderful place to learn how to pray, read, write, count, and all about the world around us! Read on to see what we are learning about this week.
Our Week at a Glance
Religion: This week we go to mass with our 8th grade buddies, read from the Bible about the miracles of Jesus and continue to say our grade level prayers
Reading: This week we continue in Superkids Club with the letter Rr. We are learning how to use exclamation points, and how to make a contraction such as: "let's." We form Rr using D'Nealian handwriting and listen for the /r/ at the beginning, middle and end of words. We read Let's Get Set and practice the memory word: my.
Math: This week we continue with chapter 7 on addition. We are learning to write addition problems horizontally and vertically. We add 1, 2, 3, and 4. We use manipulatives to tell addition stories and add using ten frames.
Language Arts: This week we focus on red words: and, of, a, I, are, like, have, see, the, is and no. We practice "decodable" words that accompany the Rr unit. We continue to read in small groups the Superkid library books and practice D'Nealian handwriting.
Science/ Social Studies: This week we continue our unit on Black History Month. We will learn about Harriet Tubman, Arthur Ashe and other black Americans who have done wonderful things for others. We will also discuss what the phrase means: March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. We are ready for some lamb weather!
