High School Admissions
A strong academic foundation is the hallmark of a strong high school application. Each year, as eighth grade students graduate and move onto high school, they do so with ongoing support and guidance from our Principal and faculty. Most De Chantal students apply to and are accepted by more than one of the local Catholic or independent high schools. Many of the eighth grade students who choose their local public high school find themselves in advanced placement or honors classes as freshman.
De Chantal students and parents receive guidance about high school choice from Mrs. Hamilton throughout the High School Admissions Process.
High School Admissions Information Session
Mrs. Hamilton and eighth grade teachers meet with 7th and 8th grade parents to explain the high school admissions process, provide application deadlines and other important details for local high schools. Parent meetings include specific guidance on how to apply; how to schedule “shadow” visits to high schools and most importantly, how to choose a high school where your child will be successful.
In the fall of a student’s eighth grade year, Mrs. Hamilton meets individually with all parents to review each students progress, answer questions and give guidance specific to each student/family decision for high school.
Financial Assistance for High School
Specific guidance is offered regarding financial aid and qualifications for high school merit based scholarships.
High School Placement Tests
Catholic, Independent and Public High Schools throughout the area require a variety of placement tests. A test prep class is offered for De Chantal students who choose to take the HSPT test. Direction and support is offered to students who take the SSAT and public high school advance placement exams.
