Welcome to Kindergarten at St. Jane de Chantal School!
Kindergarten is a wonderful place to learn how to pray, read, write, count, and all about the world around us! Read on to see what we are learning about this week.
Our Week at a Glance
Religion: This week we celebrate families. We attend mass with our Grandparents on Monday and celebrate Mary in this month of May. We pray the rosary, sing to Mary, and learn about her importance in Jesus' life.
Reading: This week we learn our last letter of the year: Z, with the Superkids program. We review all letters and focus on long vowel sounds.
Math: This week we continue our chapter on measurement! We learn how to measure length, weight, and temperature. We compare sizes and order items by length and weight. We discuss measuring time as well.
Language Arts: This week we focus on the memory words: are, and, the, is, see, a, I, no, have, of, for, you, like, to, as we begin to write our own sentences phonetically. We learn a new memory word: was. We write in our journals about our families and use whiteboards to practice writing numbers and the letters using D'Nealian handwriting. We read books about zoos, families, and chicks. We also read the online interactive Supersmart book and we read the Superkids library book.
Science/ Social Studies: This week our chicks hatch! We discuss what a chick needs to stay alive outside of an egg and we watch the little chicks grow. We are also learning about families as we celebrate grandparent's day at school. We will travel to Rock Creek Park to learn about animal habitats around us in Maryland. We wrap up the week with a visit from Squeals on Wheels to discuss farm animals and their habitats.
