Welcome to Kindergarten!
Dear new students and
families,
I am so excited to welcome all of you to
our KB classroom this year! We have so much to look forward to this year and I
can’t believe our first day of school has already come and gone so quickly! It
was a pleasure to meet your children and so many of you as you helped them make
their way down the hallway to our classroom!
I will provide you with
important information about our classroom and the school on Back to School
Night, which will be held on September 14th. Until then, I will
provide you with information outlining a typical day in our classroom. (I know
how fun it is to know what your child is up to at any given time during the
school day!)
At 7:45 our school doors open. Students enter classroom, unpack their backpacks
and turn in any important notes and papers. It is very important that all
papers, notes, money orders, etc. be placed in the red communication/homework
folder. We will not be looking in students’ book bags. However, will be
collecting the students’ folders each morning they are returned to school. We
will send school notices and information pertaining to our classroom home in
these folders every Tuesday and Thursday. (When sending money in to school,
please send it to school in a sealed envelope. Parents should write the amount
and what the money is for on the outside of the envelope. If sending a check,
please write your child’s name somewhere on the check).
*Our first week of school we send these red folders
home frequently since we have many important forms to send home that will need
to be filled out quickly.
Finally, students go to their
tables and complete a
morning work activity. (Morning activity may involve manipulatives,
toys, written assignments, or books)
At 8:00 – 8:10 we have announcements
and prayers and the school day officially begins after prayers.
8:30 attendance (if student
is not in classroom after prayers, they are marked absent). Last year we began
using a new sign-in procedure for tardy students. If you arrive after the
patrols have gone in at 8:05 a.m. please park your car in the lower lot behind
the church. A parent MUST walk your child up to the morning entrance under the
awning in the back. An 8th grade patrol will remain at this door
until after prayers to let tardy students in the building. A parent must sign
their child in. No cars are allowed to
drive up to the gym/Christopher Hall upper lost to drop off children.
Pledge of Allegiance and
students sing a patriotic song such as “America (My Country, ‘Tis of Thee)” and greet each other with a special good
morning song.
Morning message (greet
students and explain standards we will cover that day in child friendly
language).Morning message is posted throughout the day so that standards and
the daily schedule remains visible at all times). Morning message will be very
interactive and will provide students with an opportunity become familiar with
sight words, writing the date, using context clues to fill in blanks with words
that make sense, etc.
Helpers chart (jobs will
change each week so that students have frequent opportunities to take
responsibility for their classroom through various jobs)
