Welcome to First Grade at de Chantal!

 

OUR DAILY SCHEDULE:  Math, Religion, Phonics, Reading, Handwriting, Spelling, and Language Arts *** Twice a week we switch for Social Studies and Science

 

SPECIALS:  Monday— No School; Tuesday— Computers; Wednesday— P.E. (bring shoes in the book bag); Thursday- Art; Friday- Music

 

READING WORDS:  I, can, we, like, see, the, go, to *** Please make words cards and simple sentences at home.

 

REMINDERS:

Back to School Night is September 8, 2010, from 7:00PM – 8:00PM.  Please come to the back door of Room 2.  I am looking forward to meeting all of you!

 

As math facts are introduced, please buy some flash cards and work on these at home or while driving in the car.  Check out http://resources.oswego.org/games/mathmagician/cathymath.html for some computer math fun and bring your results or award to school for a sticker! 

 

We encourage you to ask comprehension questions (who, what, when, where, why and how) to your child when you read together.  Have them predict what might happen on the next page, talk about the characters, and how things in the story relate to their life.

 

The first grade goes to Mass at 11:00AM on the first and third Tuesday of each month.  We would love for you to join us if you are free! :) 

 

The red folders go home daily with notes and graded work.  Please look for our classroom webpage each week as well as our classroom newsletter on Mondays.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email me or write me a note and send it in your child’s red folder.

 

Please make sure your child has a snack everyday with a cloth placemat, and a bag for the lunch box trash (newspaper sleeve).
